Junior Art & Drawing

Course Goals

• To introduce children to the fundamental concepts of drawing and painting.
• To familiarize students with different art tools and their uses.
• To develop an understanding of color theory and how to mix and apply colors.
• To encourage creativity, imagination, and self-expression through art.
• To build confidence in using various techniques and materials for creating artwork.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Identify and use basic painting tools (e.g., brushes, crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.).
• Understand the characteristics of different colors and how they interact in painting.
• Create simple drawings and designs based on various techniques (e.g., shading, patterns, shapes).
• Demonstrate basic painting techniques, such as blending, layering, and texture creation.
• Develop a personal art style, expressing unique ideas and imagination through their artwork.

Teaching Approach

The course will be taught using a play-based, interactive approach that fosters curiosity and creativity. Children will engage in fun, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and guided practice. The instructor will provide clear instructions and encouragement, allowing for individualized progress. Group activities will also be incorporated to encourage collaboration and peer learning.

Materials Needed

• Drawing Materials:
  • Crayons, colored pencils, markers, and colored pens.
  • Drawing paper, sketchbooks, or art pads.
  • Erasers, rulers, and sharpeners.
• Painting Materials:
  • Watercolors, tempera paints, or acrylic paints.
  • Paintbrushes (various sizes), sponges, and palette trays.
  • Paint cups and aprons to protect clothing.
  • Palettes for mixing paints.
• Other Materials:
  • Drawing stencils and templates for design practice.
  • Crafting tools (optional: scissors, glue sticks for projects).
  • Plastic containers for storing artwork.

Notes for Parents

• Preparation for Class: Ensure that children are dressed in old clothes or an art apron to protect against stains from paints and markers.
• Encourage Practice: Encourage your child to practice drawing and coloring at home to reinforce the skills learned in class.
• Creativity is Key: There are no right or wrong answers in art! Please allow your child to explore their imagination freely.
• Parental Involvement: Attend open class days or art shows to encourage your child and celebrate their progress.
• Health & Safety: We use non-toxic materials, but please inform the instructor if your child has any allergies.
